Cities Won’t Get Help For Exodus From Reserves

Prime Minister Stephen Harper says towns and cities across Canada shouldn’t expect any additional monies to help address the growing number of First Nations citizens moving there from reserves.

According to 2006 Census figures released earlier this week, Aboriginal people continue to leave reserves for urban communities.

But Harper says his government has already made the decision to cap extra spending in the upcoming budget.

He says debt relief and making sure the country’s overall economic picture remains strong will be the government’s main priorities.
