For the first time since the Cigar Lake uranium operation flooded last fall, Cameco has announced when it expects to see the mine in production.
The company is expecting to see the mine up and running in 2010 — pending regulatory approval and the continued progress of remediation efforts.
Cameco plans to spend over $500 million to bring the operation on line — including $46 million in clean-up costs.
To date, crews have finished 13 of the 14 drill holes needed for reinforcing and sealing off the water inflow.
The company plans to pump concrete down those holes, seal off the inflow with grout, and then drill de-watering holes.
The company expects work to seal off the source of the flooding will be completed between July and September.
