A former Aboriginal leader who now works for the province says a recent decision to withhold government funds from the First Nations University of Canada has more to do with good business practice than anything else.

Perry Bellegarde says the Crown Investments Corporation will award $2.5 million to the university when the cloud of controversy surrounding the school has faded.

In the meantime, Bellegarde hopes the public doesn’t read too much into the delay.

The money was supposed to help FNUC help it address the shortage of Aboriginal labour in the province’s Crown sector.
