The Canadian Alliance candidate for Churchill River says today’s news of a merger between the Tories and the Alliance has given him a better chance of unseating incumbent Rick Laliberte.

Meadow Lake’s Jeremy Harrison admits the Tories have a very small presence in the Churchill River riding, but points out that they did manage to secure about 600 votes in the last federal election.

Since the margin of victory between Laliberte and Canadian Alliance candidate Kerry Peterson was roughly 15-hundred votes in the last election, Harrison says today’s announcement should give his chances a boost in the next election.

Harrison says it’s assumed he will be the candidate in Churchill River for the new party because the Canadian Alliance has 500 active members in the riding, compared to 7 for the Conservatives.
