An RCMP underwater recovery team has found the body of a man who died in a weekend helicopter crash south of Fond du Lac.

29-year-old Philip William Lincoln of Smithers, BC was one of three occupants of a chopper that crashed into a small unnamed lake east of Davy Lake on Sunday.

The Mounties say it appears he was able to exit the aircraft after the crash, but wasn’t able to make it to shore. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The pilot has already been treated and released for his injuries, while the second passenger remains in a Saskatoon hospital. His condition is not known.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has begun its investigation.

Spokesman Peter Hildebrandt says they have completed interviews with the survivors and are currently coordinating a look at the wreckage, which remains in the water.

Hildebrandt says it will be quite a while before they figure out an exact cause of the crash because the incident happened in such a remote part of northern Saskatchewan.
