The band council in Wollaston Lake has decided to have all stray dogs in the community shot following a close call yesterday.

A young child on his way to school was attacked by a pack of dogs, but escaped injury.

Band councillor Ed Benoanie says there have been two or three incidents like this recently, so action had to be taken.

Benoanie says the dogs often run in packs of 15 or 20 animals, and usually come into the community in the evening or early morning.

He also says the community had to do something like this last summer, and killed between 70 and 80 strays in one day.

The stray dogs will be hunted down and destroyed this coming Monday by the local RCMP and community volunteers.
