A northern band chief’s endorsement of the Saskatchewan Party yesterday in La Ronge isn’t sitting well with Athabasca NDP candidate Buckley Belanger.

Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Harry Cook took part in an informal community luncheon with Saskatchewan Party leader Elwin Hermanson in La Ronge yesterday.

Cook told reporters that Hermanson and the Saskatchewan Party should be given a shot at governing the province.

Belanger doesn’t feel Cook speaks for the majority of northern Aboriginal people, but admits he didn’t like hearing those type of comments from such a prominent First Nations leader.

Belanger says Cook’s backing of the Saskatchewan Party has only strengthened his resolve to win the approval of voters in the North.
