Chiefs from the Prince Albert Grand Council and the Meadow Lake Tribal Council met today to discuss the issue of Land Claims.

A number of topics were presented, including mining policies, Cill C-30 and how industry is approaching the topic.

Chief Helen Ben of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council says her people will be interested to see how Chuck Strahl’s new Specific Claims Legislation actually works.

Officials from the FSIN were on hand to explain more about the government plan and how it will work.

$250 million a year will be set aside over the next decade to pay out claims. Claims less than 15 years old will not be heard. And claims that exceed $150 million will go through a different process.
