Chief Says Sewage Leak Report Will Be Investigated

Poundmaker First Nation Chief Duane Antoine says he’ll send a housing co-ordinator to check into concerns about residential sewage leakage on his reserve.
Reserve resident Marcia Nault says sewage has been leaking onto her yard.
“Nobody’s phoning me, nobody’s coming here. They (band officials) do know about it, because a secretary did answer, and she said she did tell somebody,” Nault says.
Antoine says he didn’t know about Nault’s sewage problem until contacted by MBC.
He says he’ll send his housing manager to check into it.
Nault also says her hot water heater has been damaged as a result of an ongoing boil water advisory on the reserve.
Antoine says his housing co-ordinator will investigate that problem too.
“I will send our housing co-ordinator out there to see what’s happening, but as far as groundwater, that’s pretty much flushing out the lines,” Antoine says.
The boil water advisory has been in place for about a month now.
A new pump was installed a couple of weeks ago.
Antoine says the advisory is still in effect, because workers are still testing the water to make sure it’s safe.
