Chief Hopes Road Strategy Deals With Local Highway

A chief in northeast Saskatchewan is hoping to hear details about possible improvements to the road near his community next week.

On Monday, the provincial government is expected to unveil details about its recent $65.5-million commitment to northern transportation infrastructure.

Shoal Lake Cree Nation Chief Marcel Head says he hopes at least a portion of that is earmarked for Highway 55.

That road leads to both his community and Red Earth, and Head says it is in bad need of repair.

He’s worried about the fact Eldon Lautermilch recently took over the cabinet responsibility for provincial highways from Maynard Sonntag.

Head hopes that doesn’t mean his band will have to re-educate the Department of Highways all over again.
