The chief of the Beardy’s/Okemasis First Nation says he feels better about the future of the Willow Cree healing lodge.

Rick Gamble attended a meeting yesterday in Saskatoon where he discussed a number of concerns over the facility with officials from the Correctional Service of Canada.

Just a few weeks ago, the chief criticized the way the department was handling the institution, saying the CSC had basically abandoned its founding vision of a holistic facility.

However, Gamble says the meeting cleared the air between the two sides, and he’s received assurances that senior officials at the lodge will listen to advice from the band’s board of directors.

Gamble says he will now be watching to make sure theory gets put into practice.
