One of the men originally accused of killing Amber Redman has had his first degree murder charge stayed.

31-year-old Gilbert Bellegarde was arrested and charged in May, shortly after the arrest of 29-year-old fellow suspect Albert Bellegarde — who has recently consented to stand trial on his charge of first degree murder.

Albert Bellegarde’s trial will take place at Court of Queen’s Bench in Regina at a date that still has to be determined.

Both men hail from the Little Black Bear First Nation, where the remains of the 19-year-old Aboriginal woman were discovered in May.

Redman was last seen alive in the early morning hours of July 15th, 2005 in the parking lot of a Fort Qu’Appelle nightclub.
