A centre to help First Nations get jobs and expertise in natural resources was officially opened in Saskatoon today.

It’s called the Saskatchewan First Nations Natural Resource Centre of Excellence.

Among other things, it will provide training for jobs in the resource sector.

It will also look for partnerships with government and industry to make resource projects happen.

The federal government has provided $400,000 over two years to get the centre up and running.

Right now, the centre is concentrating on oil and gas.

But Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Lawrence Joseph says plans call for the centre to grow into other sectors, such as mining.
