Cause of Flooding At Rabbit Lake Located

Crews at the Rabbit Lake mine have discovered the source of a leak that caused water to flood the operation in November.

Cameco spokesman Lyle Krahn says an old exploration drill-hole was the culprit and has since been filled with concrete.

He explains that over the next 3 to 5 weeks crews will wait for the mixture to harden, so they can continue mining.

He adds the mine’s pumping system has also been upgraded.

In 2007, Cameco produced 4 million pounds of uranium at the site but it’s unknown how much they’ll get next year.
