This time next year, there will be 15 new Metis educational assistants in the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division.

Today, the division and the Dumont Technical Institute announced a partnership that will see the training of these EAs begin next fall.

Ilsa Arnesen-Kun, a Metis EA at a community school in Saskatoon, says this will make a difference, because opportunities like this didn’t exist when she was graduating high school.

“It’s great that it’s come this far,” Arneson-Kun says. “I remember many years ago when I was graduating high school and was looking for (educational) grants within the Metis Society, the money wasn’t always available, and that’s basically what it came down to…. This is a great opportunity, a huge opportunity, for so many people. This is just a stepping stone.”

The 10-month program is offered through DTI, and will be taught at a Saskatoon high school
