A 60 year old British Columbia man could spend the rest of his life in prison.

Last night Brian Casement was convicted in a Saskatoon courtroom for the murder of Victoria Nashacappo.

The jury was convinced by the Crown’s case that Casement picked up 21 year old Victoria Nashacappo more than six years ago for sex.

Nashacappo changed her mind, so Casement raped and strangled her, stashing her body in the basement of a demolished house.

He led undercover RCMP officers to her body four years after that.

The defense argued Casement and Nashacappo agreed to have sex and she asked him to choke her doing it, so her death was an accident.

Casement’s lawyer, Daryl Labach, says his client is disappointed the jury didn’t believe him, but Labach says he’s not surprised Casement had nothing to say after the verdict was delivered.

Labach says it’s too soon to decide if he will appeal the decision.

Casement will be eligible for parole in June 2031,when he will be 82 years old.
