Aerial surveys of the Beverly Caribou herd could take place as early as this spring says an official with the Caribou Management board.

Tim Trottier says some funding has already been gathered and board-members hope to stage the survey in June.

Scientists are eager to get a better sense of how big the herd is, and how it’s coping with today’s challenges.

Trottier says the last time the herd was surveyed was back in 1994.

At the time it was estimated there were 276,000 animals in the Beverly herd.
