One of northern Saskatchewan’s most talked-about events from last year made history at the province’s tourism awards banquet last night.

The Saskatchewan Centennial Canoe Quest became the first finalist to take home two awards of excellence from Tourism Saskatchewan.

SCCQ coordinator Sharalyn Reitlo says it’s a proud moment for everyone, including the host communities.

Reitlo says there is a lot of talk in the North about possibly shooting for a second event, but she admits it would take a lot of hard work and planning.

The Canoe Quest took home the award for Best Promotional Marketing Campaign for an Event or Festival, as well as the Spirit of Saskatchewan Award.
