The chief of the Canoe Lake Cree Nation says the boil water advisory has been lifted at his reserve, but there are still a few concerns he feels needs to be addressed.

Guy Lariviere says the water system on the First Nation is clear of toxins, fully operational and safe for band members to drink from.

Lariviere says although they may seem to be in the clear, he is still wary and has concerns about the water treatment plant itself.

However, he says funding has been earmarked to help bring the water facility up to par.

Lariviere also feels his community was lucky as far as potential health problems are concerned. To his knowledge, no band members became ill from drinking the contaminated water.

The reserve went without clean drinking water for almost two weeks, ever since sewage began leaking into the community’s drinking water supply.
