A former chief with the Gordon’s First Nation says he wants the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations to do some soul-searching into what it’s really all about.

Glen Pratt is running to be re-elected as the organization’s third vice-chief.

He says he believes the federation has to connect more with grassroots voters back on-reserve.

One of the way he proposes to do this is by refocusing the federation on treaty issues, as opposed to simply setting up social programs with government dollars.

“We also need to look at where we’re going with our political offices — what kinds of staff should be have in place, should we have a number of lawyers, should we have some lobbyistss. What should we really look like as a federation?,” Pratt says.

Pratt says he thinks the federation should bring in an independent CEO to help provide some fresh perspective.

Pratt is opposed in his bid for re-election by challenger Dutch Lerat.
