A Cameco spokesman says the uranium mining company is not planning to get involved with the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan’s fight with the provincial government.

A letter was recently sent from MNS treasurer Ray Laliberte to Cameco, requesting that the mining giant lobby the NDP government for recognition of MNS jurisdiction in the Metis land claim area in the North.

The letter stated that non-violent demonstrations would take place on important industrial routes in the North if action wasn’t taken over the issue.

Cameco communications officer Lyle Krahn says the company is currently drafting a letter of response.

However, Krahn admits Cameco doesn’t plan to act on the MNS request.
