One of the world’s largest uranium producers is also one of Canada’s top 100 employers, according to the 2009 list released by a firm that publishes information for job seekers.
Cameco Corporation was named this year, and it’s the first time the Saskatoon-based company has made Mediacorp Canada’s annual list.
Cameco spokesperson Lyle Krahn says there are a number of reasons why his employer made the list, including the company’s emphasis on both worker safety and environmental protection, and their position as “a leading employer of First Nations and Metis people.”
He also cites Cameco’s “ability to post enviable financial results during (the) time of economic uncertainty that we’ve experienced over the last while.”
Cameco employs 3,000 people across the country, many of them at northern Saskatchewan minesites.
SaskTel, SaskEnergy, Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) and the Information Services Corporation (ISC) — all provincial Crown corporations — are the other four Saskatchewan companies named on the top employers list.
The top 100 list recognizes Canadian employers who lead the way in attracting and retaining employees.
