Cameco has begun to bring new people on board to help it deal with safety concerns at the Cigar Lake uranium operation.

The company announced on Friday that it has hired two experts in the industry in response to a report last week that slammed its response to a flooding incident at the site last fall.

Cameco spokesman Lyle Krahn says the company takes the report seriously, and won’t let the same mistakes happen twice.

Among other things, the report noted the company blasted a hole much larger than was needed and failed to erect support structures on time.

The report also said Cameco ignored the advice of workers on how to fix the inflow of water when it happened.

Krahn says company officals have already consulted employees about the mistakes that were made.
