Cameco Gets Jump Start on Cigar Lake Job Ads

An official from Cameco says his company is not presuming anything regarding the fate of the Cigar Lake construction licence application.

Cameco expects to hear word before Christmas about whether it finally has the green light to proceed with the long-awaited uranium operation.

Already, Cameco has posted job advertisements for a variety of positions at the site, but spokesman Lyle Krahn says his company is simply trying to be ready if approval is granted.

Krahn says by not putting out the job ads now, it would create an unnecessary and “significant” delay in the construction process if the licence is approved.

The Cigar Lake operation will mine ore from one of the richest uranium deposits in the world.

About 300 people are expected to gain employment during the construction phase.

When it’s operational, the mine will employ 250 full-time workers.
