Cameco has decided to drop Transwest Air as its supplier of charter air service to and from northern Saskatchewan mine sites.

The change took effect 11 days ago.

Cameco spokesman Lyle Krahn doesn’t want to go into specifics, but says his company decided it was time to go in a different direction.

Neither company will comment on the value of the contract, but it’s rumoured to be worth over $1 million annually.

Transwest Air spokesman Ken Landers admits it represents a good chunk of his company’s charter service, but says they will move on.

Krahn says West Wind Aviation has been awarded the contract, for the time being.

However, he wouldn’t rule out a future relationship with Transwest Air.
