Cameco Continues Work On Tailings Pit

A spokesman for Cameco says the uranium company continues to explore ways of stabilizing the banks of a northern Saskatchewan tailings pit.

In 2005, sand spilled into the pit at the Key Lake mine.

An environmental group is worried about what impact that development will have on the environment.

However, company spokesman Gord Struthers says there is no need to worry.

Meantime, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has awarded Cameco a new five-year operating licence for Key Lake.
