The Prince Albert Grand Council was the setting this morning for a meeting between Premier Lorne Calvert and several prominent First Nations leaders.

It was the first stop on the premier’s second leg of his summer bus tour.

Some of the topics discussed included health care, economic development and jurisdictional issues regarding resource development in the North.

PAGC chief Gary Merasty says the province needs to understand that First Nations may actually provide some solutions to the problems Saskatchewan is facing, particularly in the health care sector.

Merasty says some national organizations have made inquiries to his office about how certain arrangements are carried out in the North.

He says the province is basically unaware of the unique qualities of these arrangements.
