NDP Leader Lorne Calvert says he’s intrigued by the Saskatchewan Party’s pitch to voters in this month’s by-election in Cumberland.

Saskatchewan Party candidate Dale McAuley has said repeatedly that it’s best for the riding to be represented by someone with the governing party.

Calvert says party affiliation shouldn’t have any bearing on how a riding is represented.

Meanwhile, NDP candidate Doyle Vermette admits to feeling some added pressure to win, since his party has historically won convincingly in the northern constituency.

Calvert believes there will be greater scrutiny on the candidates than on the parties in the June 25th vote.
