Saskatchewan’s premier is reaffirming his government’s support for an all-weather road network in the Far North.

Lorne Calvert visited Hatchet Lake yesterday, where he toured the community and met with local leaders.

Last December, the NDP government committed $65 million towards northern infrastructure, much of which was earmarked towards the Athabasca road project.

Calvert says the province is committed to getting the work done, with or without Ottawa’s help. However, he adds he has no reason to believe the feds won’t come through.

Calvert says he expects the work to begin later this year, after a few environmental questions have been answered.
