Burning Suspect Appears In Court

The 12-year-old girl accused of setting fire to a woman in La Ronge last week appeared in court this morning for a bail hearing.
The suspect was charged with aggravated assault a few days after a 26-year-old woman with serious burns was discovered behind a business in downtown La Ronge.
The youth, who cannot be identified because of her age, was led into the courtroom in handcuffs by RCMP officers.
The girl showed no emotion and appeared to not pay much attention throughout the court proceedings. She smiled at family members, chewed on her finger nails — and at one point — yawned.
The judge hearing the matter informed a packed courtroom that he needed time to go over material submitted to him regarding the girl’s release. He then adjourned the matter until tomorrow.
The youth was remanded into police custody and will appear for a bail and plea hearing tomorrow morning.
The judge also placed a publication ban over the evidence in the case.
