A long-time chief in northern Saskatchewan has been voted out of office.

Elmer Campbell is no longer in charge at the Buffalo River Dene Nation following yesterday’s band election.

Campbell finished 73 votes behind new chief Louis Chanalquay and 30 votes behind runner-up Freddie Billette.

Campbell has been the chief in Dillon for the last 11 years.

Buffalo River’s band council also has a new look to it, with only one incumbent back for another term — Peter Catarat.

He’s joined by newcomers Colin Catarat, Wesley Sylvestre, Gilbert Benjamin and Hazel Chanalquay.
