A date for a by-election to replace the chief at the Buffalo River Dene Nation has apparently been scheduled for next month.

Residents of the northern reserve have been without a chief since former leader Louie Chanalquay abruptly quit last month.

No one has been willing to comment, but MBC has learned that band members will go to the polls on October 3rd.

Nominations will be held on September 19th.

Chanalquay has been in power for the past three-and-a-half years.

Sources say the band’s general chief and council election will still go ahead as planned in February.
