A Toronto-based oil and gas exploration company has signed a deal with a northwest Saskatchewan First Nation to jointly explore and develop oil and gas prospects.

Access Energy and the Buffalo River Dene Nation have signed an MOU related to oil and gas exploration in the band’s Treaty Land Entitlement lands, located roughly 60 kilometres west of Buffalo Narrows.

Company CEO Paul Parisotto says the deal will serve as a basis for a long-term business agreement that will be announced shortly.

Band chief Louie Chinalquay says he’s pleased the First Nation will have serious involvement in this venture.

He adds it means a lot to his people to have a say in how their land is used, the potential for jobs and the growth of their community.
