The Battlefords Tribal Council provided a financial boost yesterday for a North Battleford recreational project.

The BTC is committing $2.75 million to help build the Battlefords and Area multi-purpose recreational facility.

The project has been in the works for more than five years.

The total cost of the facility is estimated to be at least $40 million.

BTC CEO Randy Wallace says work to prepare the site could begin as early as Monday.

Actual construction is expected to begin in the spring and be completed in about two years.

Project committee chair Brian Maunula says active involvement of First Nations in this project is extremely important.

Wallace says the multi-purpose facility is just part of an overall development plan for the east end of the city.

Future projects include a new or expanded casino and a First Nations theme park.
