A research project is underway to examine weight issues affecting First Nations women.
The initiative is a joint-effort between the Battlefords Tribal Council and the University of Saskatchewan.
B.T.C. Health Services spokesperson Janice Kennedy says the project will involve focus group sessions, interviews and consultations with whoever wants to participate.
Kennedy says the effort is being made to better understand the effects obesity and high body mass have on Aboriginal women.
She adds one of the factors that helped prompt the study was the increase of diabetes in the area.
The study is expected to take three years to complete.
