A former lawyer with ties to northern Saskatchewan has been found guilty of attempting to obstruct justice.

59-year-old James Michael Bomek sat quietly today — looking at times out a window — as a judge sentenced him to an additional year in jail for his actions.

It was determined that the one-time lawyer tried to give a former judge nude photographs of a jailed man whom Bomek knew.

The court determined that Bomek was trying to cash in on the friendship he had established with the judge in exchange for his friend’s early release.

Crown prosecutor Sandeep Baines says justice has been done.

Defence attorney Don Mullord says he doesn’t plan to appeal at this point.

He estimates it will be nine to 12 months before Bomek is eligible for parole.
