The search for a trapped miner at a northern Saskatchewan gold mine has ended on a tragic note.
Claude Resources says a search and rescue team found the body of the missing worker at its Seabee Mine at around 3:00 this morning.
Family members have identified the man as 29-year-old Corey Braaten.
CEO Neil McMillan says it appears he was killed in the initial collapse of a tunnel on Tuesday that led to this week’s intense search effort.
The mishap took place around 800 metres underground, although the company is still not saying much about what led to the accident.
McMillan says the company’s thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family, and caring for them and the mine’s employees is the company’s first priority.
Counselling is being offered at the mine site and at the home locations of family members.
Braaten was from Birch Hills.
