The body of a 19-year-old man who escaped from RCMP custody in Beauval over the weekend was found near the community yesterday.

The RCMP aren’t confirming it, but sources say the victim is Kyle Martin Lariviere of Canoe Lake.

Lariviere escaped from custody at around 5:00 Saturday morning after being arrested at a residence in Canoe Lake an hour earlier.

The Mounties say he was intoxicated at the time, and had breached a band bylaw.

He was taken to the Beauval detachment, but disappeared when the officer left the RCMP vehicle unattended to unlock the detachment door.

Lariviere was not handcuffed.

The officer searched for Lariviere on foot and by vehicle for an hour-and-a-half without success.

Lariviere’s body was found by searchers late yesterday afternoon along a snowmobile trail, roughly seven kilometres from Beauval.

The cause of death has not been determined, but the Mounties say there was no evidence of foul play at the scene.

An autopsy has been ordered.

The RCMP’s Saskatoon-based Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.

The force has also contacted the Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing to request the appointment of an “independent investigational observer” into this matter.
