The La Ronge RCMP are currently investigating a shocking discovery in the northern community of Sucker River.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Brian Jones says the body of a 6 year old boy was discovered last night floating in the water by two fisherman at approximately 10 p.m.

Jones says RCMP are also looking for another 6 year old boy who was believed to be in the company of the deceased boy.

Jones says a water search was conducted last night by Mounties and local volunteers but the missing boy was not located and the search continues today.

Jones says police still don’t know exactly how the boys ended up on Lac La Ronge, but it is believed the two children may have gone out in a small fishing boat.

He says foul play is not suspected at this time but the investigation is continuing and the main concern right now, is locating the missing child.

No further details are available and the name of the boy will not be released pending notification and permission from the next of kin.

As a result of the discovery of the child’s body and subsequent search efforts going on today, the 2006 Lac La Ronge Indian Band Treaty Day celebrations in Sucker River have been postponed.
