Fire crews have made a grisly discovery after responding to a house fire on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band reserve.

RCMP spokesman Sgt. Brad Kaeding says details are still sketchy at this time, but fire crews were called to the reserve home just after 1 am this morning.

He says once the flames were extinguished, investigators stumbled upon a body in the home.

Kaeding says two men were able to escape the residence but both sustained injuries and were transported to hospital. There is no update to their condition.

Kaeding says an autopsy is being conducted and the deceased person can not be identified at this time, nor can the RCMP disclose if it were that of a woman or man.

The incident is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, in a brief statement to MBC this morning, Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says it’s still too early to say exactly what steps the band is going to take to help the family, especially this close to Christmas.

Cook-Searson says an announcement will be made, once the band learns more details and discovers who the deceased person was.
