Boarding School Survivor Registry Sent To Ottawa

Over 800 people have been registered on the official list of Ile-a-la-Crosse boarding school survivors.

The registry was handed over to northern Saskatchewan Member of Parliament Rob Clarke at a meeting Friday before he headed to Ottawa.

However, the list is still not entirely complete.

One of the people lobbying to have the former students deemed eligible for federal compensation says they will continue to try and contact survivors.

Don Favel also believes good progress was made at last Friday’s meeting, especially since it was attended by someone from the department responsible for residential school compensation.

Favel says, until now, those officials have never talked face-to-face with survivors to hear first-hand accounts of how the school was run.
