Black Lake Slate of Candidates Finalized

The chief electoral officer for the Black Lake First Nation has released the list of people who will be running for chief and council in the long-awaited band election later this month.

A nomination meeting was held a week ago, but the ballot was only finalized yesterday following the completion of criminal record checks on the candidates.

The band has been without a chief and council and under third party management for several months.

The band has used that time to revamp its election act to avoid a repeat of a situation earlier this year where two men were claiming to be chief.

Those same two men — Victor Echodh and Freddie Throassie — are the only candidates for chief in next week’s election.

The Black Lake chief and council election will take place a week from today.
