Indian Affairs has agreed to put the Black Lake First Nation under third party management.

The request came from members of the band who wanted to put Black Lake’s bitter election dispute behind them.

The community was thrown into turmoil a few weeks ago after a controversial election that resulted in two people claiming to be chief.

The third party management will be a temporary arrangement until the band revamps its election code and holds another election.

A spokesman for Indian Affairs says the department is currently negotiating with a potential third party manager and expects an agreement shortly.
