Black Lake Gearing Up for Nomination Meeting

Today’s the day the Black Lake First Nation holds a nomination meeting for a new election that was ordered a few weeks ago.

A slim majority of band members decided in a special assembly that a new election was needed to settle a grievance concerning the band’s last election this past January.

Two men who made unsuccesful bids for chief during that election, Donald Sayazie and Freddie Throassie, contend that band funds were used improperly in the lead-up to that election.

The men made their case to band members at the special assembly, and just over 50 per cent of those in attendance approved a new election.
