A new school on the Birch Narrows First Nation should be complete by the fall of next year.

A sod-turning ceremony took place on the reserve yesterday.

Birch Narrows chief Robert Sylvester says his community badly needs the new 340-seat facility.

He says everything looks ready to go for the construction, and the plan is to have the school ready for students by September 2010.

Indian Affairs recently announced a new school would be built at Deschambault Lake as well.
