Birch Hills Youth Detox Centre Referendum Underway

Monday, April 23, 2007 at 14:57

Residents of Birch Hills are casting ballots today on whether or not to build a youth addictions facility there.

The Prince Albert Grand Council wants to establish a centre for youth who are having problems with drugs and alcohol.

The proposed 15-bed centre would treat teenagers for extended periods of time.

The idea was already rejected last fall in a referendum, but the PAGC is trying it again.

A previous campaign to establish the youth detox centre in the RM of Buckland was turned down by municipal officials there.

The results of today’s referendum should be known tomorrow morning.
