The town of Birch Hills has rejected a proposal by the Prince Albert Grand Council to establish a 15-bed youth treatment facility in the community.

By a margin of 294-218 in a referendum held yesterday, residents voted against the idea of selling appropriately zoned land to the PAGC for the construction of the facility.

Town mayor Gordon Dyck says he will not comment on the issue unless people go to talk to him in person.

The results of the vote are binding.
