A Prince Albert woman has been handed an eight-year prison sentence for killing a woman originally from Deschambault Lake.

34-year-old Audrey Freda Bignose was originally charged with second degree murder in the death of 46-year-old Alice Margaret Ballantyne.

But Bignose pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter yesterday.

Bignose was arrested shortly after the discovery of Ballantyne’s body in a Prince Albert apartment building on January 8th.

Court heard that Ballantyne died of blood loss after being cut on the forehead by a shard from a broken plate.
