Big Island Lake Man Fatally Injured In Fight

The RCMP are investigating the violent death of a 23-year-old man from the Big Island Lake Cree Nation.

The Mounties say they were called to a home on the reserve at around 11:30 yesterday morning and found the injured victim.

Jared Leigh Kahpoonapit was taken to the hospital in Cold Lake, Alberta, but died of his injuries.

His family told the RCMP that Kahpoonapit had been involved in a fight the night before.

The RCMP’s major crimes unit out of Saskatoon is helping with the investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
