The chief of the Muskowekwan First Nation has formally announced his intention to run for the position of chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

Reginald Bellerose is currently in his third term as chief of Muskowekwan.

Bellerose says the skills he has gained in his five years as leader of the First Nation will be easily transferred to the larger stage.

Bellerose will be trying to replace incumbent FSIN Chief Lawrence Joseph, who’s expected to seek re-election.

Former vice-chief Guy Lonechild and at least one other challenger are also in the running.

The election will take place this October during the FSIN’s fall legislative assembly.
